23 Jul Fairbeats online music lessons
Over the last year Fairbeats children have been enjoying our online music lessons via Zoom. The sessions are still continuing for the kids at Refugee Action Kingston, and they are currently learning two new skills.
The first skill is learning new chords on the ukulele, and the second is experimenting with songwriting. At the start of each session our music leader Nadine sets up some musical games to get the creative juices flowing, and then she will suggest a topic to start exploring. Last week, we were writing a song about summertime, and the kids each thought of a line and then they re-worked the lines into the song. The results were inspiring.
Nadine said: “The online music lessons have been a great opportunity to stay engaged with the children especially during the past year. They have loved the online, and now face to face sessions and learnt a lot of new skills as well as gained confidence and developed new friendships. The sessions are a great opportunity for them to engage in music, be creative and have a lot of fun. Those that took part don’t get the opportunity to express themselves musically and having the chance to work with professional musicians has been really special”
