09 Jul Instrument challenge
Fairbeats kids create their own instruments!
In the summer of 2020 in the midst of the global pandemic, our music leaders set a brilliant challenge for the children across all our Fairbeats projects to create their own instruments! They had to find materials at home, design and make a workable instrument.
Materials gathered included tissue paper, cardboard, plastic straws, drinking glasses, water, rice, and spoons! The children presented their homemade instruments in the online sessions and then all the kids anonymously voted for their favourite design. The five inspiring winners each received a gift card as a prize.
Our music Co-ordinator Kaia said: “The Fairbeats music leaders and kids loved taking part in the ‘Instrument Challenge’ in April. The kids really got involved and thought outside the box, letting their imaginations transform a medley of materials they could gather around the house into some brilliant instruments. It was also nice to see them expand their creative minds. We are used to them playing their instruments but the challenge gave them a chance to add their own personalities into the task.
The final winning instruments are pictured below and they include a multi-coloured straw drum, a rice shaker drum and a water glass set of chimes!
Congratulations to the winners, and thank you to all of you who took part.
